The massive influence Lonhro has had on Australian racing was emphasised yet again at Flemington on Saturday, 3 November when Aristia gave her sire his second win in as many races on the Victoria Racing Club’s Derby-Day card.
The best racehorse of his era, Lonhro’s reliability at stud is reflected in a winners-to-runners record of better than 70 per cent.
Aristia had the G2 Wakeful Stakes in her keeping with 300m to run when she strode up to join the leaders before pulling away to win clearly.
A maiden coming into the race, Aristia had always indicated that a middle distance would bring the best out of her, and she proved it in today’s 2000m trial for the G1 VRC Oaks.
Aristia is the third winner from three foals to race for her dam Nakaaya, a stakes-winning daughter of Tiger Hill.
Aristia’s win followed that in the previous race by Godolphin colt Ranier in the G3 Carbine Club Stakes.
Lonhro stands at Kelvinside, NSW at a fee of $55,000, inc GST.
