Kermadec three-year-old Gundec continued a terrific run for his sire when he led most of the way on Saturday, 2 April to win the Listed Bendigo Guineas over 1,400m.
Gundec, out of the Australian mare Sunup, jumped quickly from an inside barrier for jockey Joe Bowditch and raced with the runner-up Asymmetrical nearly all the way before fighting her off. Sharp Response finished well to take third place.
The colt has been a great moneyspinner for Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde, earning $199,200 from three wins and one placing in eight starts.
Kermadec was a dual G1 winner on the track and is also the sire of Montefilia, who won her fourth G1 in the $700,000 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill Gardens just two weeks ago.
The stallion, whose yearlings sold for up to $120,000 at Magic Millions in January, while at Inglis' Classic, three sold to Hong Kong connections and he achieved sales of $150,000, $160,000, and $170,000.
Kermadec was the only stallion to sire a Group double at the 2021 Mellbourne Cup Carnival through Willowy's G2 Wakeful Stakes-G1 Oaks double.
Kermadec stands at Darley’s Northwood Park stud in Victoria with his fee for the 2022 season available in late April.
