Gingernuts’ victory in the G1 Windsor Park Plate in Hastings pushed his sire Iffraaj toward his customary position among New Zealand’s most prominent stallions.
Having the second start of his preparation, Gingernuts raced wide in a midfield position and with 200m to run, drove to the line to beat Close Up by a heads margin. This win places Gingernuts among the favourites for next month’s G1 Caulfield Cup.
In a stellar three-year-old season, Gingernuts added the G1 Rosehill Guineas to his G1 NZ Derby crown, placing himself high among Iffraaj’s eight G1 winners, a list headed by Godolphin’s star European miler Ribchester.
Gingernuts was bred by Goodwood Stud and connections have confirmed his lead-up race to the G1 Caulfield Cup will be in fourteen-days in the G1 Livamol Classic over 2040m at Hastings in New Zealand on 7 October.
Iffraaj stands under the Darley banner at Haunui Stud in New Zealand at a fee of NZ$25,000 plus GST.
