Another Derby winner for Reset
A winner of four of his seven starts, progressive three-year-old Reset gelding Mystic Prince became the second Derby winner for his sire, after the dual G1 winner Rebel Raider, with victory in the G2 W.A.T.C. Derby over 2400m at Ascot, Perth on 20 April.
Settling back in the field on the fence for Victorian jockey Ben Melham, as the pace slowed mid-race Mystic Prince started to make his move by pulling out and going wide. As the leaders started to feel the pinch as they rounded the home turn, Mystic Prince started to chase down the leaders. Only getting there in the final few strides, theĀ Grant Williams-trained gelding showed superior staying ability to record his first Stakes victory, already being the winner twice over 2000m before today's test over 2400m.
Bred by Bob and Sandra Peters, Mystic Prince is out of the winning Catbird mare Purfect Size, a half-sister to the Listed Perak Derby winner Generous Tycoon, from the family of Stakes winners Zeditave, Alannon, Greys Inn, Verocative and Jet Spur.
Represented in recent weeks by the unbeaten Ms Funovits and the SA Derby aspirant Shoreham, Reset is the sire of 24 Stakes winners highlighted by ten individual G1 or G2 winners.
