Godolphin’s star filly Alizee has passed her most serious test to date with distinction, scoring a courageous victory in the G1 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, 23 February and confirming herself as the best of a growing list of winners for her sire Sepoy.
Having her third run this preparation, Alizee raced wide for the entire 1,400m trip but still proved too good for Malaguerra and her stablemate Hartnell (Authorized).
The win is her third at G1 and her eighth overall from 17 starts.
Alizee’s previous G1 wins had been against her own sex, but the latest came against open, weight-for-age company, prompting her trainer James Cummings to declare her one of Australia’s best.
“Only a true G1 horse could do what she did today, she’s right up there with the best of them,” Cummings said.
Alizee is one of Sepoy’s 11 Stakes winners and is among the stallions 229 individual winners.
She is also a Darley product through-and-through being from the Exceed And Excel mare Essaouira, the dam of the G1 winner and stallion Astern.
