Another Wil returned to top form and scored his third Stakes victory when he won the G2 The Damien Oliver over 1,400m at Flemington on Saturday, 2 November.
The five-year-old son of Darley’s US-bred stallion Street Boss weaved a passage from sixth on the home turn under jockey Jamie Kah to burst clear and beat stablemate Jimmysstar by 1.25 lengths, with Steparty three-quarters of a length away in third place.
Unplaced in the G1 Toorak Handicap 1,600m at his previous start, after winning the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes 1,400m at Caulfield on 21 September, Another Wil notched his fourth race win at the distance and took his record to eight wins and two placings for Cranbourne trainer Ciaron Maher.
Bred by Mrs J. Thomson out of the Australian mare Arohanui and part-owned by the late Colin McKenna, a great friend to both Maher and Kah, Another Wil boosted his prize-money swag to $907,675 from 12 starts.
Street Boss has now sired 969 winners of 2,874 races worldwide – including 73 individual Stakes-race winners of 148 Black-Type events.
The stallion has nine G1 winners, headed by former champion Australian galloper Anamoe – who won nine races at racing’s highest level.
Street Boss currently stands at Darley’s Northwood Park property in Victoria for a service fee of $66,000, GST inclusive.
