Ghaiyyath: million-dollar yearling, leading first-season sire by average, median and price

World's best racehorse passes his price-tag onto his yearlings

Established as the world's best racehorse and €1.1 million foal, Ghaiyyath's first crop of yearlings in the northern hemisphere have secured the highest-priced yearling of any first-season sire.

The stage was set at the 2023 Arqana Vente de Yearlings d'Août in Deauville, where the progeny of the four-time G1 winner made a lasting impression on the buying bench.

Following Charlie Appleby's statement of Ghaiyyath as the "heir apparent to Dubawi," Godolphin strategically acquired three yearlings. This move aligns with Godolphin's hallmark of choosing progeny by elite stallions, exemplified by their past successes with progeny by Shamardal and Dubawi.

Among these purchases was a colt from the same family as Lockwood. The colt commanded €600,000, translating to over a million Australian dollars. This price stamped Ghaiyyath as having the highest-priced yearling by a first-season sire.

In addition, Godolphin secured the half-sister to Chilean for €425,000 and a filly out of G3 winner Binti Al Nar, knocking the gavel down for €340,000.

Reflecting on the purchases of the three of Ghaiyyath's yearlings, Anthony Stroud stated, "The ones I've seen, not only here but the homebreds, are really pleasing. They look really good. He's a lovely, quality horse and he's transferring it to his stock."

Ghaiyyath concluded the Arqana Yearling Sale as the leading first-season sire by average, median and highest-priced yearling. He stands at Northwood Park in Victoria at a fee of $27,500 including GST.
