Consistent mare Parisal collected her third Stakes race and the fifth win of her career with a determined victory in the Listed XXXX Gold Rush at Hawkesbury on Saturday, 4 May.
First-up from a four-month spell under Godolphin stable apprentice Zac Lloyd, the four-year-old daughter of Astern took the lead at the 200m pole and then fought off Eagle Nest to win by a half-length.
The winner’s stablemate, Spacewalk, was 1.7 lengths away in third place as the James Cummings-trained Parisal clocked a fast 1minute 2.32 seconds for the 1,100m journey.
A dual Group 3 winner before Saturday, Parisal has now won four from four over the distance and has three wins and a second from four first-up attempts.
Out of the Australian mare Circular (Street Cry), who is also the dam of G1 Newmarket Handicap winner Cylinder, Parisal now boasts a record of five wins and five placings from 13 starts for prize money and bonuses totalling $703,175.
Parisal also has a yearling half-sister (Sphere) by Bivouac and a weanling half-brother by Brazen Beau.
Her victory lifted the progeny of Astern to 363 race wins worldwide, including 23 at Stakes level.
Asternia (La Chepis) was the stallion’s previous Black-Type winner when successful in the Listed Purple Martin Stakes (1,200m) at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas on 16 March.
Astern will again stand at Darley’s Kelvinside property in the NSW Hunter Valley in 2024 for a service fee of $16,500, GST inclusive.
